Gaudi, a Spanish (Catalan) architect, designed most of the fascinating buildings in Barcelona. He worked during the Art Nouveau/Modernism period. This art/architecture movement avoided straight lines. However, unlike his fellow contemporaries, Gaudi’s work was as practical as it was artistic. His masterpieces include the Sagrada Familia cathedral, which has been under construction since 1882.
Unfortunately, we could not go inside because the pope was visiting that weekend. In fact, we saw his motorcade go down the street that Saturday night. There were hundreds of security men escorting his motorcade.
