(Above: Cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese) This city is exciting! Really, it is. I was meeting up with a friend this morning at Union Square. I got off the Subway and there was some type of farmer's market, so I decided to explore. It was about 10:30 a.m., and what do I find? Wine tasting! Score!!! I learned that I need to start drinking local wine, because my beloved Napa varietals are hard to find and expensive.
I ended up buying the "Grape-Full Red" from Tickle Hill Winery. It is a red table wine, but it is very simple and delicate with a hint of sweetness. I'm sure that this wine is a palate-pleaser for those that have not acquired a taste for red wine.
Several wine tastings by 11:30 a.m.? Not a bad start to a Friday morning!
Another interesting thing to note: the farmer's market takes food stamps! I am currently in Harlem, and I must say, it is a bit of a food desert here. Groceries are sold at corner stores with limited (if any at all) produce to choose from.
After a morning of wine tasting, we stopped by Murray's Bagels. Paris is known for its croissants... New York for its bagels!
I asked the guy taking my order, "Hey, what's the best bagel?" He answered: "For the ladies? Cinnamon raisin with strawberry cream cheese." I'm not a fan or raisins, but hey, I wanted to try what was the best! And I'm glad I did--What. A. Delicious. Bagel! The cream cheese was freshly made, and real strawberries were swirled into it. The bagel itself was gigantic! I almost didn't finish it.
My friend had a lox and bagel sandwich. Hers looked pretty good too!
